Flood insurance denotes the specific insurance coverage against property loss from flooding. The protection offered by most policy covers losses incurred due to some failure at the home itself. However, Flood insurance indemnifies the insured for the loss of property that occurs specifically due to overflowing water bodies or flood. Flood insurance is specifically needed for properties situated in flood-prone areas.

You can see the image below of a scam message sent in the name of the Better Business Bureau.

Its another phishing scam but one that slipped through many spam filters.

It purports to be from the Better Business Bureau website but has a non specific reply address manager@bbb.org.

It arrives unsolicited to businesses who do not even use the BBB services.

And it arrives addressed generically to Sirs.

When called the phone number was disconnected early in the day and had a recorded message warning against this email later in the day warning against clicking the link or opening attachments.

The Better Business Bureau does try to resolve disputes between consumers and businesses, but only contacts businesses with a prior relationship.

STEELMAKER Tata has ceased production at its hot strip mill in Newport, in a move that will result in 115 job losses.

It said it expected the mill at Llanwern to remain mothballed until the UK economy and steel demand justify a restart.

The Indian-owned steel maker said in the meantime the market will be supplied with material from its other hot strip mill in Port Talbot, whose costs are lower.

The Llanwern cold rolling mill and’ galvanising line will continue in operation.

Jon Ferriman, Hub Director for the Strip Products UK hub based at Port Talbot and Llanwern, said: “It is with great regret that we have had to make this decision. I would like to pay tribute to those valuable people who have helped us make the flexible working model a success at Llanwern. Clearly this is a very difficult time for them.

“The Llanwern Hot Rolling Mill is an important operation for us, and our intention is to bring it back into operation as soon as market conditions permit.”

The mothballing is a result of continuing poor UK steel demand amid a deteriorating European economic outlook.

WASHINGTON (AP) – A congressional panel has voted to subpoena former Sen. Jon Corzine to testify next Thursday about his role leading MF Global, a brokerage firm that collapsed this fall after a disastrous bet on European debt.

The hearing will be a rare moment in Washington. Congressional historians had to reach back to 1908, when a former senator from North Carolina was called to testify in connection with a corporate lobbying scandal, to find a similar instance of an ex-member of Congress being summoned by his former peers.

The House Agriculture Committee voted Friday to issue the subpoena after Corzine failed to reply to an informal request to appear at the hearing.

Chairman Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Okla., said his testimony is “essential to fulfill our objectives.”

Hours later the head of the Senate Agriculture Committee called for subpoenas to be issued to Corzine and other MF Global executives to appear Dec. 13 before that panel, if they dont come voluntarily.

Sen.

Number portability is a system that allows subscribers to leave their current mobile service provider and join a new provider.

The telecommunication regulating body, in a statement said the number is encouraging and a clear indication that the system is running smoothly. The relatively few difficulties that occurred at inception stemmed from human error or misunderstanding of the processes involved, the NCA noted.

NCAs analysis of data for the month of July shows that of the porting requests completed:

10% were completed in 15 minutes or less
23% were completed between 15 minutes and 1 hour
34% were completed between 1 and 4 hours
31% were completed between 4 and 24 hours
2% were completed in more than 24 hours

The fastest port recorded so far in Ghana took place in a mere 1 minute, 10 seconds. The average port took place in 5 hours, 21 minutes from start to finish, the statement added.

“The Ansett administration sets a lamentable precedent for regulation, disclosure and insolvency generally”.

Ten years of administration for the failed airline has proven a fees bonanza, but exactly how much no one knows, writes Michael West.

Mark Korda was casually non-committal last year when asked how much his insolvency firm had earned from the collapse of Ansett Australia.

It ”could be $20 million”, he told BusinessDay. And the rest? Ansett is probably the biggest and almost certainly the most profitable insolvency in Australian corporate history.

It shot Mark Korda and his partner Mark Mentha to stardom on the liquidators scene after the two young partners of Arthur Andersen set up shop on their own and took the Ansett business with them.

Mark Mentha …

I don’t know how many of you have seen the film The Truman Show? But we’ve all wished we could live in a perfect world sometimes, where every traffic light is green and every decision goes your way. Working without effective feedback can sometimes seem like that – you complete a task or project, send it on its way into the business and move on to the next one. You presume that it went well, or was accepted, because you worked hard on it – so why wouldn’t it have been? Therefore you continue to work in the same way, follow the same processes, and produce the same results.

Of course, much of the time, projects are of the right standard and you’re right to continue to produce the same results, but sometime there is room for improvement or change. If it were the Truman Show then someone would be employed to work away in the background solving problems and smoothing your path and you’d know nothing about it. In real life,
